Numana is the grand lady of the Riviera del Conero. Situated at the foot of the Mount Conero, Numana spirals up along steep alleys which are full of history and then stretches out into the characteristic, breezy harbour.
The town is divided into two parts: Numana Alta (the high part) and Numana Bassa (the low part). The former is the older part, with small, white houses, the narrow lanes of the area with the “Torre” (Tower), the Bishop’s Palace (now the Town Hall), overlooking the “Piazza del Santuario” and the modern church where the Holy Crucifix of Numana , one of the most beautiful and enigmatic works of the Christian culture, is kept.

Numana Bassa is the more modern part and here the small tourist port, one of the best-equipped in Italy for pleasure boats, is to be found. Between the port and Marcelli there are numerous beach establishments which offer fun and facilities all along the coast during the day and are perfect for elegant aperitifs, music events and strolls in the evening. On the surrounding hills, the locality of Svarchi and the Taunus Village are ideal for a comfortable and peaceful holiday.
Moving southwards from the port, you find Marcelli. This is a newer area with tourist facilities and bustling nightspots.
Numana is a wonderful mixture of old and new: monuments, historic attractions and churches which blend in harmoniously with the natural beauty of the beaches, cliffs and rocky trails amidst the woods. This ruggedness, combined with all the mod cons, is every tourist’s dream. Several events, ranging from summer events to excellent shows, make staying in this marvellous town even more pleasurable and interesting.
